HHRF MESSAGE- BOARD MEMBER DAVID SCHMUTZ

David Schmutz is a current enthusiastic Board member and supporter of the Horses and Humans Research Foundation’s mission – funding the studies which aid in our understanding of horses and humans.

Dave has observed the wondrous effect of the horse on humans through many years in the equine industry as a barn owner (of some 20 years) and as an international official in the Para Equestrian competition.

“At our barn, the riding school took special care to work with handicapped and emotionally challenged individuals. The effects were at times miraculous. Later, as I began to work with para-athletes, the kindness and healing effects of this interaction became even more manifest. In this port, miracles are a constant occurrence.”

These beneficial effects happen in many equine pursuits, but the underlying reasons explaining the restorative effect to people has largely eluded our understanding. A rigorous scientific approach to understanding the complex mechanics of horse-human relations is essential.
